Dear Mr Riegsecker.
My name is Simon. I've been running my own business downtown for over a year now, almost right after graduating in December 2009.
Being what you would call a liberal, I probably wouldn't vote for a republican candidate who chooses to advocate for money before people, but anyway. I'm willing to listen to everybody, and to use rational thinking rather than just emotions when choosing the people that will have the great responsibility of leading the city in the next 4 years.
Yet, I'm concerned by your Halloween flyer.

If you're truly a business advocate, I'm sure you understand the value of education for the next generations business people and entrepreneurs that will indeed keep bringing opportunities in the country and ultimately in this town. How can you launch a business without quality education and knowledge, not only in your trade but also in business, accounting, entrepreneurship, etc?
I'm deeply saddened that you are choosing to use fear speech and to discredit the value of the education Goshen College brings to the future economical force of this nation and of this town (just for your information, GC has been rated as the 8th best institution in Indiana, and amongst the top 250 in the country, before Purdue, Ball State and Indiana State, amongst others). I'm deeply saddened that the Republican party chooses to campaign not on a real platform, but just on fear mongering, gossips and stupidity. I'm deeply saddened that your only way to promote Goshen as a town "open for business" is to give tax breaks to businesses that have little to no consideration for the workers they'll pay the bare minimum wage (have you tried to live on minimum wage? It's hard. There's no way to pay for suits and fancy ties). I'm deeply saddened by your lack of creativity and imagination in terms of solutions to bring Goshen has the awesome place it is in the 2nd decade of the XXIst century.
Once again, the republican base and party leadership in Goshen has disappointed by sticking to its stereotype of small town intolerance, aggressiveness and lack of real thinking. I was hoping that the high stakes of this election and the challenges Goshen is facing would bring you and your team to use their brain, not to appeal to the lowest instincts in your voting base. Once again, you're missing the chance to truly make a difference.
If this is the best you have to offer, you and your council candidates team are not fit to be in charge. And also, inspire me a lot of pity.
Have a nice day.
Simon H.

I already wrote about this on the GoMediaZine, but something made that short film be in front of me again today. Hence the post again. Some of the text will be taken from that previous post of mine, some will be specific to this post.
